Summer is here and so are the bugs

Oh my, my, my, my. I haven't posted anything here since last Friday. My most sincere apologies - I just KNOW you've all missed me terribly, my life is so exciting, ya' know.

I think summer has finally arrived, at least the calendar says it has, yesterday being the first day of summer and all. It's finally quit raining here so the mold that was growing between my toes has quit. The fins that were starting to grow along my back are disappearing, along with the webs between my toes. And Ole has quit building the ark, so maybe now we'll get on with some real summer weather. But now we have THIS problem:

With all the water standing around you can bet your Sweet Bippy that the bugs are invading. So yesterday Ole and I spent the afternoon mowing all the grass short (AGAIN), and then spraying to kill all those ugly little creatures. Ole's got a 50 gallon tank that he puts behind the little Ford tractor. It's got a long hose with a big spray nozzle attached. The only problem is he can't drive the tractor and do the spraying all by himself. So guess who gets to straddle this 50 gallon tank and do the spraying? Yup, you guessed it. It used to be quite a ride going over all the bumps and stumps here and there, trying to hang on and get the spraying done. I came really close to falling off one time, so now Ole's fixed stirrups and a make-shift saddle on the tank so I can get a grip. Yup - I've got my own galvanized horse these days. I told him if he ever put a make-believe horse head on the end of the tank I'd use my spurs on HIM!! The stirrups and saddle are enough already - I don't want to look TOO silly as people are driving by pointing and laughing.

But I guess they can point and laugh all they want because WE don't have any mosquitoes - ha, ha - and so there!!

We initiated the new fire pit last Saturday night. I think everybody had a great time - at least they stayed really late. That can be a problem some times as some people just don't know when to go home.

Saturday afternoon was really busy for me, and Ole too, of course. We were invited to a birthday party. Remember Dick and Jane? Of course you remember Jane and my private entries about her. Well, this birthday party was for Dick and Jane's little grandaughter, who turned a year old on June 16th. Jane's daughter and son-in-law (whom she hates and can't say enough bad things about) moved away to a town about 100 miles from here. And of course either they come back here every weekend or Dick and Jane go there. So Jane decided she was going to host her grandaughter's first birthday, which was fine. But the only people she invited were HER friends, not any of grandaughter's parents' (Jane's daughter and SIL) friends, along with a few relatives. We were invited for lunch but were asked to bring a dish to pass and given a list of things that the little grandaughter would like for her birthday!! Most of these were in the $40+ range. I guess when all you have at your birthday party is "old farts" you expect that they can fork over expensive gifts for grandaughters turning a year old. Do I sound snotty? Good - I meant to.

I sat next to Jane's mother. I've met her before, but it still was an "experience." It was 90-some degrees that day and no shade at noon where we were sitting. The woman is in her 70's, was wearing SHORT shorts - like so short they almost showed her private parts, and so tight her butt crack was quite evident - but her saving grace was that she was wearing panty hose!! NOT support hose - just plain panty hose. She also was wearing what I call a "belly shirt" - one of those short t-shirts that stops about three inches above your waistband and shows your belly button and all your love handles. Not a pretty sight. I hope when I reach that age I have a bit better taste - if I don't, please feel free to slap me. The entire time that she was there she was concentrating on working a crossword puzzle out of the newspaper. I guess she was pretty bored at her great-grandaughter's first birthday!!

Let's see, what else has been going on. It seems we've been so busy but at this point I can't think of what we've been doing.

Only three weeks until we take off in the motorhome - can't wait. We'll head west again (of course) and spend some time in Wyoming before heading to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August. I think we'll go back to Cody again as there's so much interesting territory around there that we didn't cover last time we were there. And of course there will be a trip to Meeteetse and the Cowboy Bar, along with all their ghosts. I'd also like to get over to the Grand Teton mountains as we didn't get that far last year. It was so unbelievably hot last year it was difficult to ride any extended period of time - temps ran about 107 to 110 some days and that's like riding through a blast furnace.

And then of course we'll spend 10 days at the bike rally. Last year was a terrible disaster due to too many people homesteading on our campsite (Dick and Jane and all THEIR friends). That won't be happening this year as Jane couldn't get vacation at the appropriate time (hallalujah). Although I'll miss Dick - he's such a sweetheart. So I'm REALLY looking forward to the 10 days in the Black Hills where we'll meet up with our friends from Arizona and just thoroughly enjoy everything.

I haven't been writing a lot on Blogger lately because it seems like I just never have a block of time to sit down. But I have been reading and keeping up on everyone. It looks like more and more folks are defecting away from Diaryland. To those of you who are still with Dland, I'm reading but not leaving many comments because it just takes too long for them to post. Doesn't mean I don't love you though - you know I do.

There have been some fun Meme's going around lately - I'm such a sucker for those things, and I love learning more about each of you.

Anyway - time to give Ole a boost in the butt and for both of us to get busy.

More later as things unfold (what things???)

Love, Lena
